Our Harry Potter inspired Love Potion Smoothie:
1 frozen banana (secret ingredient)
Cherries frozen (adds the pink color)
Peeled orange (just throw that sucker in whole)
Vanilla almond milk
Coconut extract flavor
The amounts always vary but the result is always delicious!
Simple Coconut Milk Smoothie
2 cups coconut milk, from a box
1 medium frozen banana, sliced
1 cup frozen pineapple, chopped
If this is wrong, I don’t want to be right..
Wait, it’s not wrong, it IS right. I’ll just pretend it’s wrong then…
This is my breakfast and there is more than one reason that I’m using coconut milk. First, because it’s pretty yummy. Second, because it’s from a fruit. So my smoothie is all fruit and zero dairy.
I’ve been interested in digestion and how it works since my gallbladder liberation. I’m obviously not an expert but through some internet and library research I’ve discovered that the body responds differently to different types of food. Certain food combinations can reduce the nutrients’ that you absorb and the effectiveness of your digestion system. For example, fruit is very easy for your body to digest, but if you pair it with something like dairy, which stays in your system longer, the fruit can actually rot and be expelled as waste. If you separate the two foods, however, the fruit can be digested as fruit and not as diary. The book I’m reading even suggests eating only one kind of fruit at a time and then waiting 30 minutes before eating a different fruit. I’ve obviously ignored that suggestion with my delicious smoothie recipe but you get the idea. Even pairing fruits with vegetables can throw a wrench into the system. These probably aren’t things that someone with no indigestion would concern themselves with, but if you’re like me, and you are missing a piece of the puzzle (the gallbladder) it’s interesting stuff. I’m experimenting with combinations to see if I can narrow down the foods that give me trouble. My plan this week has been to only eat fruit from 8pm to noon to give my body the time it needs to digest and detoxify from the previous day of eating. So far, it’s been great. I feel better and less sluggish in the morning. And things are moving nicely, if you know what I mean. I’ve also been including a salad with lunch and dinner to increase my veggie intake. If you need more motivation (and I always do) this easy digestion diet can help you to lose weight. And I don’t mean the weight of the gallbladder leaving your body! Hehe, sorry, I have a gross sense of humor.
Stuff that’s making my mouth water…
Butterbeer Cupcakes (I’m in shock just from reading the recipe)
Pizza Puffs (sounds like a perfect bento food!)
So.. totally Thanksgiving menu, am I right?
I have a sore throat tonight and an achy body, and even though I’ve railed at the universe about this injustice I guess I need to call ‘uncle’ and go lay down. I sort of re-hurt my ‘wounds’ by picking something too heavy up and I’ve been trying to clean this house. The image of trying to stop water from flowing down hill has come to mind while I fight to slowly pick up all the toys and art supplies that constantly march themselves out of Ara’s room. And the dishes that fill the sink. And the laundry that piles up. Ugh, I’m in a foul mood, I’m sending myself to bed. I may yell at the neighbor kids first though.. it’s almost 9pm and by the sound of it they are constructing a metal rocket ship in the street and the poor things are slightly deaf so they need to shout instructions at each other while their creation loudly clanks to the ground. Repeatedly. Don’t these kids have school tomorrow? Or parents? Or the decency to know that I don’t feel good?!
Stop the world, I want to get off.
House, clean thyself.
Peace out, home dawgs.
We have outside cats using our dirt as a litter box and I’ve finally decided to do something about it. Something besides shoveling it up and hoping that damp dirt will deter them, that is. Obviously, I don’t want to harm the cats so I’ve decided to go with a method found in Naturally Clean Home (it’s a cool book, check it out).
Out Spot Formula:
1/2 cup flour
3 tablespoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon powdered cayenne pepper
Combine ingredients and sprinkle around flowerbeds.
I tried asking Chester (our 30lb cat) to sit in the window and look menacing, but he said he was busy holding down the sofa. I would have apologized to him for being so presumptuous but he fell asleep before I could finish talking. He even snored. He’s kind of a big deal, so I left him alone.
