Wishful Hatching
I’ve seen other bento-ers create adorable hatching chicks out of hard boiled eggs, so I thought I would give it a try. Obviously, I fell a tad short. For one thing, I utterly fail at peeling the shells off of eggs smoothly. I must be cooking them too long, or too high, or something. Also, the egg I used had an off center yoke so I had to cut off the top twice to find it! AND finally, I don’t have any nori or nori punches to make the face. I tried cutting teeny tiny pieces of tomato but the eyes came out square and made the baby bird look more like a hatching robot. So I left off the face and added it later in photoshop! Wishful thinking, I know. Anyway, the noodles are leftover from our dinner of chicken alfredo, I added a colby jack cheese flower on top. The egg is free range and the shell was this lovely brown color. Add some cherries and there you have Ara’s lunch for tomorrow!
This is a motivational bento! Like those posters that say, “Believe” or whatever. Mine says, “run” because that’s what I’ll be doing tomorrow on a treadmill of death. I am trying a program called C25K that is supposed to help guide the non-runner through a 9 week training program to a 5k run. There is a 5k in March I’d like to do (only 6 weeks away) even if I end up having to walk some of it I think it would be awesome to do. Who cares how fast I go as long as I go, right? RUN!
Oh right, the lunch. This is all low carb except for the 5 alfredo sauce covered noodles. Hard boiled egg slices sitting on top of roast beef/cheese rolls with peppers, grape tomatos, cherries, blackberries, blueberries, and a few slices of lime. I tried some fancy cutting on a tomato, I was only marginally successful but I still think it looks cute.
Good luck with the training, I would love to be a runner someday! The bentos are looking delicious as always.
Thanks, I’m embarrassed to even call it ‘training’ since I am so slow but I need a goal to stay motivated and this is as good as any! I really hate treadmills.
Hey Flute, if you are wanting free programs to keep you motivated and help you train for 5k’s etc try logging into http://www.nikeplus.com it is free and you can use the walk to run. I could not run for two minutes when I first started now I can do 3 miles in 30mins just by following the guides. It;s free so give it a try
Good luck on your 5k! I started my venture because I wanted to complete the march for babies 10k in honor of my babies. This year I hope to accomplish it
Wish me luck!
I’ll check it out, thanks^^
